Flex facilitated the establishment of Fullerene International Corporation, a $4 million joint commercialization venture between Mitsubishi Corporation (publicly listed), Research Corporation Technologies, and MER Corporation. It was Mitsubishi's first commercialization investment ever, it was RCT's first funding from a Japanese entity, and it was MER's first agreement with a Japanese company.
Flex brought investors in from Korea Technology Investment Corporation, Yu Yu Pharmaceutical (publicly listed) and also participated in the funding of Biocept, Inc. Biocept is a San Diego based pioneer in the field of biochips and makes arrays for DNA, proteins and small molecules.
As Vice President of Marketing, Shatz facilitated a deal between three Nomura Group companies and the Mortgage Backed Securities Department of Trust Company of the West that turned into a $750 million over five years.
As Assistant Vice President of Institutional Sales and Research, Shatz facilitated negotiations in the first ($250 million) mutual fund deal between Nomura and Rosenberg Institutional Equity Management, and that led to a $5 billion joint venture.
